Roleplay means playing a character in a shared, believable world instead of just playing to win.

The basic idea
In GTA roleplay, often shortened to GTA RP, every player controls a character with a name, a background and goals. You live in a persistent version of Los Santos and treat the world, and the people in it, as real.
What does roleplay look like?
A police officer responds to a call and talks a suspect down.
A criminal plans a robbery with a crew and has to handle what goes wrong.
A civilian works a job, makes friends and gets pulled into someone else's story.
In character and out of character
Anything your character says and does is in character (IC). Talking as yourself is out of character (OOC). Good roleplay keeps the two clearly separate. The roleplay terms glossary explains these and other words.
Serious roleplay
Homebase is a serious roleplay server, which means it values believable scenes and interaction. Read serious vs casual roleplay for the difference, or jump straight to how to join.
